Project Overview

The project consisted of a nine bedroom extension over three floors to an existing care home.

All bedrooms are spacious single rooms built and furnished to a high standard. All rooms have a ensuite shower room and toilet.

Ground floor rooms have patio doors with direct access to private patios and also the shared landscaped gardens.

This was another successful project, cementing our ongoing relationship with our customer, Somerset Care, on a variety of schemes.

Added Value

This was a negotiated scheme. The customer had a very tight deadline to complete the works as the rooms had  already been agreed to new occupants.

Having worked with us previously, Somerset Care came to us for the negotiated works instead of a competitive tender. We worked closely with our repeat customer to deliver the project within their budget and on time for their new occupants to move in. A great deal of pre-contract collaborative working took place and we were able to undertake a successful value engineering exercise that gave our customer every confidence in our ability to deliver the project on time and on budget.

Delivering this scheme really strengthened our already strong relationship with Somerset Care and we were delighted to be able to achieve the much needed extension in such a short space of time.

Challenges and Solutions

Noise and dust considerations were paramount.

Suppression of machinery needed to be used and constant liaison with the care home staff was completed when any specific activities were to be carried out. This ensured that disruption was kept to an absolute minimum.

Calway House remained open and fully operational throughout the works.

We worked closely and collaboratively with the care home staff and the stakeholders in order to maintain the smooth running of the care home. We had weekly review and progress meetings with the delivery team, customer and care home staff . We also issued a programme of works on a weekly basis so everyone would be aware what was happening in the up and coming week.
