Customer Value
Customer satisfaction measures how successfully we have delivered our services and how they compare against our customers’ expectations. On completion of every project we will conduct a Customer Satisfaction Survey. This gives our customers the opportunity to provide extensive feedback on our performance and to identify how the Halsall team delivered against our ethos and values.
Aftercare
With a wealth of experience and nearly 70 years combined experience with Halsall, our dedicated Aftercare team are on hand to resolve any issues that may arise post completion 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Our directly employed Aftercare team is headed up by our Aftercare Manager who goes above and beyond to ensure client satisfaction and provide a trustworthy service which doesn’t stop at practical completion.
Our Aftercare Manager introduces himself to the client around eight weeks before handover to explain our aftercare process and to gain an understanding of their requirements and timescales, ensuring we provide a service tailored to their needs. We understand the importance of regular communication and provide daily updates and feedback, reinforcing an open, honest and collaborative working relationship.
Any defects received are processed based on their priority and issued to the relevant subcontractor to arrange for the works to be completed within the required target date. Upon completion, we write to confirm that the issue raised has been completed satisfactorily and will enclose the signed defect form for record purposes. Our Aftercare team liaises with the Client to discuss any issue that has arisen out of a received defect, ensuring all concerned are kept well informed of any possible changes that are deemed necessary for clarity purposes and clear transparency. Ultimately making certain that client/resident/tenants satisfaction is achieved, without causing unnecessary delays or any inconvenience in dealing with defects.
Our out of hours service provides cover for weekdays 1700hrs- 0830hrs, weekends 24hrs and 24hrs for all holiday periods. The same process is applied as above to our subcontractors and in turn we are provided with up to date information throughout the out of hours period via e mail, on the processing of dealing with the defects and how they are unfolding. This audit trail enables us to ascertain the outcomes during the return of normal working hours and to report back to our Clients accordingly.
Health and Wellbeing
We know that a healthy and happy workforce results in an efficient, productive business. That’s why we invest in our people’s health and wellbeing.
It is a priority and in our utmost power to look after the physical, phycological and social wellbeing of our employees. As a result, we were accredited ‘Gold’ in both for the Investors in People and in Investors in People Wellbeing.
In addition, we also carry out work place assessments regularly and actively promote ways in which to make improvements and lifestyle changes whilst at work and home.
Safety
At Halsall, Health and Safety is given the highest priority and is central to everything we do. We are committed to implementing the highest standards of health and safety which has recognised with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Gold Medal Award to mark five consecutive years achieving a Gold health and safety award. Halsall have now been awarded with RoSPA Gold for the sixth consecutive year.
Halsall’s commitment to health and safety compliance can be demonstrated through the employment of a full-time, experienced Safety, Health and Environmental Manager and through continued membership of Safe Contractor, CHAS, EXOR and Constructionline. Halsall are ISO 45001 accredited and forms part of our Integrated Management System.
Each year we set targets to achieve across a range of performance measures, one of these is our Accident Incident Rate (AIR) which is a continuously improving target for each year. Our sites also run a ‘Don’t Walk By’ feedback and suggestion scheme to engage the workforce and help continually improve health and safety performance on every site.
Above all, our primary objective is to ensure that everyone returns home safely and that no-one is injured as a result of our undertakings.
For more information on Health and Safety at Halsall, see our SHEQ Policy.

Social Value
Community Engagement
At Halsall we are committed to engaging with the local community before the work starts on site. Our effective communication process ensures that all individuals and stakeholder groups are fully informed and can provide feedback, ensuring we minimise as much disruption to local communities as possible. We aim to engage with everyone within close proximity to our projects. Some of our previous activities include visiting schools to raise awareness of health and safety and taking pupils on site visits. Considerate Constructors Scheme The Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) is a non-profit-making, independent organisation set up by the construction industry to improve its image by striving to promote and achieve best practice under five key areas:
- Care about appearance
- Respect the community
- Protect the environment
- Secure everyone’s safety
- Value their workforce
All of our sites are registered with the scheme. We take pride in achieving excellent scores and are regularly awarded performance beyond compliance certificates. You can see an example of this at the bottom of the page.
Supporting the Local Community
We are committed to investing locally and building strong, collaborative relationships with the local community. We actively use local labour and materials wherever possible on all of our projects. We are proud of our heritage as a long-standing employer in our local community and support young people starting their careers by offering structured apprenticeships, internships, and trainee and graduate roles. As well as employing locally, we also sponsor a local football team and have been involved in local charitable causes and events. For Example Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service made the most of our tower crane on our Droitwich site. It’s no surprise that the Fire and Rescue service don’t get too many opportunities to practice a tower crane emergency rescue, so they arrived in the their full uniform and did just that. We were more than happy to allow them to use our site for such an important training activity.
Added Value
We add value everywhere we can and we’ve had an amazing 2019 which has continued into 2020. We focused on maintaining our robust relationships which can be demonstrated as 70% of our projects were either from repeat clients or recommendations. As a regional principal contractor and developer, our strength is our sub-contractor base and supply chain in the areas we operate. We build firm relationships with companies around and throughout the region to allow us to deliver quality consistently. We regularly implement the use of off-site manufacture, which aids in reducing waste, lowering our environmental impact of transportation and speeding up programme, to ensure we are minimising disruption to residents, businesses, schools and all individuals that are in close proximity to any of our sites. We take our responsibility of being a neighbour whilst on site seriously. We understand development is disruptive and we aim to minimise this for those around us. Engagement with the community is undertaken throughout the development process. We aim to engage with everyone within close proximity to our projects. Some of our previous activities include visiting schools to raise awareness of health and safety and taking pupils on site visits.

Continuous Professional Development
We employ talented people and promote a working environment where we motivate, encourage and create opportunities for our personnel to grow. We have a real passion for and strong history of training and development; our Managing Director Andy was once a trainee at the company and many others have progressed through in this way. Every employee has regular reviews with their Line Manger, and every year the Performance Development Review (PDR) and Leadership Development Plans are carried out where we review current performance, set objectives with clear, realistic timescales, and gain an understanding of the individual’s career aspirations to allow us to put a personal development plan in place. These plans are regularly followed up with Line Managers and Mentors and ensure consistency with our values and our management standards. All employees are offered training relevant to their job roles, along with a suite of soft skill courses ensuring they have the correct skills and are confident to be able to do their job effectively. Our KPI for training is set at 3.5 days per person, per year. Currently, we are over performing in this area and are at 4 days per person, per year.
Employee Engagement
Twice a year we hold a company meeting with all employees within the business. Our Leadership Team provides a presentation on the Company, what we have achieved over the past six months and what our forward focus is. Each year, we conduct a people survey and a health and wellbeing survey where we ask all of our staff to complete a confidential questionnaire about their experience of working for Halsall. The data received allows us to gain an understanding of our areas of strength and weakness and helps provide us with a direction for improvement. Once the data has been collected and analysed, we hold a people survey review meeting in groups where we discuss the findings and communicate our improvement plan. We know that a healthy and happy workforce results in an efficient, productive business. That’s why we invest in people and wellbeing. It is a priority and in our utmost power to look after the physical, phycological and social wellbeing of our employees. As a result, we were accredited ‘Gold’ for the Investors in People ‘Wellbeing’ category and ‘Silver’ for the Investors in People in 2020 for the next 3 years. We have 6 fully trained Mental Health First Aiders who are our Ambassadors for Mental Health in the workplace. The Ambassadors are committed to help create a healthy supportive workplace and are here to help all colleagues with a friendly chat and advice. Over the years, the quality of our workplace environment has improved and we were delighted to have won the South West Constructing Excellence award “SME of the Year” as well as being nominated for “People Development” which is something we are extremely proud of.
