The project consisted of the demolition of the existing single storey masonry building, followed by the construction of a two storey purpose built arts and general teaching block.
The building was constructed using a steel frame with an SFS system, brickwork to the ground floor and cladding to the first floor. An insulated zip roof completed the project.
We are proud to have delivered the much needed, high quality accommodation facility, that has 2,400 students attend each year. The new facility with help counter the identified overcrowding issue and provide a spacious learning environment for the students.
This project was handed over four weeks ahead of schedule.
The college were keen for a completion date for the end of the October half term. Our construction programme showed a completion date for early December. We were able to reconfigure the works and accelerate the programme in order to hand the project over four weeks early.
Halsall sponsored the sports initiative over the summer holiday by supplying t-shirts to all of the young children who attended.
We hosted regular student site tours.

This was a live environment, the site is situated at the heart of a busy college, carrying out of the initial demolition posed potential challenges with noise and dust.
To overcome these challenges we had solid hoarding installed to reduce the level of noise and to alleviate the spread of any dust. Teaching timetables of the adjacent classroom blocks were requested and the heavy works were scheduled around this.
The client wanted a display system that could be used to segregate the open space, it needed to be light weight and easy to use.
A number of workshops were held with the college and a purpose made hanging rail system was devised that was operated by a roller track fixed to the steel with 20 frames for displaying artwork. These frames can be rolled out, displaying their artwork.
Gaining entry to the site was tight, the front of the College can become extremely busy at times throughout the day, all deliveries were phased and scheduled to ensure safety.
A precise traffic management plan was prepared and issued to all trades and suppliers in advance of attending site to ensure their works or deliveries did not affect the day to day running of the college.
