Contract:

JCT Design and Build

Duration:

60 Weeks

Value:

£2.1m

Project Overview

The project consisted of 22 self contained apartments. Constructed over three floors using traditional construction methods.

The external finish is a mixture of face brick and external cladding detail with aluminium contrasting windows.

Part of the remit was to build two apartments fit for disabled use incorporating larger door openings, a walk in shower and wet room plus low level electrical fittings and a low level kitchen with adjustable worktops.

To access the upper floors a specialist lift has been installed along with two communal stairwells.

Added Value

A brownfield site, turning a redundant quarry site into specialist affordable housing for older persons squeezing a suitable scheme within fixed boundaries of the quarry walls and a stream

Providing specialist disability units, which included adapted kitchens, bathrooms and circulation spaces including changing levels for handles, sockets and worktops to allow flexibility of use for wheelchair users

Clearing and cleaning of watercourse adjacent to site, which had been left overgrown, creating a more free flowing stream which would help prevent local flooding

Completing footpath links and specialist crossing points, by connecting the quarry site to the existing main road as the footpaths stopped short, which connected houses to a supermarket nearby.
