The project consisted of the demolition of the existing public house and the standard traditional masonry construction of a 70 bed care home offering respite and dementia care services to the elderly.
The care home offers a hair salon, cinema room, coffee lounge, spa rooms, three dining rooms, one main kitchen, activities room, garden room, three external terraces and landscaped gardens.
Externally there are plants that are all colours throughout the year and also sensory lighting which is a therapeutic activity and can help stimulate sensory sensations for dementia.
The care home was built to a very high standard. Avery Healthcare has a portfolio of over 50 care homes in the UK and we are very proud to have successfully completed yet another project and pursue our long lasting relationship.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service made the most of our tower crane on the Droitwich site.
It’s no surprise that the Fire and Rescue service don’t have too many opportunities to practice a tower crane emergency rescue, so when they arrived in the their full uniform and asked if we would allow them to use the crane, we were more than happy to accommodate them and to use our site for such an important training activity.
The opening of this care home will provide 50+ jobs for the local community.
The local nursery children were welcomed on to our site to see what we were building and to learn a little bit about the construction industry.
All of Halsall’s sites are registered with the Considerate Constructor’s Scheme and as part of the scheme, we teamed up with the local Meadows Nursery and Pre-School and arranged for all the children to be provided with hi-vis tabards and flashing safety lights.

Droitwich Mews is situated in a built up area. Demolishing the previous building needed to be handled with care.
We held formal meetings every six weeks that local residents could attend and voice any issues or concerns they had. We also had clear signage with the single point of contact on the site so they could contact us at any point.
Covid-19 played a big part in the complexity of this project, however we endeavoured to mitigate and manage the project and challenges that Covid-19 brought.
We ensured workers and visitors were protected against the spread of the virus by having stringent operating procedures in place, social distancing and keeping within the Public Health England guidelines. Our SHE Manager also made regular site visits to ensure our Covid-19 procedures were being followed.
